15 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Fallout
5. Fallout 3 Was Banned In Australia On Release
The land down under has a track record of banning video games that don't meet the standards of their Office of Film & Literature Classification. Current games that have never seen the light of an Australian day include Hotline Miami 2, Postal and Syndicate to name just three. But for a month, Fallout 3 found itself on that unfortunate list. Was it because of the dark tone, references to nuclear warfare and scenes of violence and slavery? No. It was drugs that proved too much. It wasn't a technical ban; they refused to give the game the age rating it needed to be sold and because there is no R rating when it comes to games, it was stuck in legal purgatory. In their judgement, the board criticised the use of chems in the game and their connection to real world drugs. The game eventually got its rating when Bethesda changed the names of the meds to fictional ones and removed references to real life products. Crisis averted.
