15 Misleading Video Game Trailers That Totally Lied To You
12. Call Of Duty 2
Following the lead of many other developers revealing games at the dawn of a new wave of consoles, Activision quite blatantly took more than a few liberties when it came to showcasing what Call of Duty 2 was - and wasn't - capable of doing. By focusing its reveal trailer on a pre-rendered CG movie, but showing it from the point-of-view perspective that was so inherent to the gameplay of Call of Duty, this initial reveal of the game managed to fool many into thinking that what they were seeing was actually captured in-game footage. Of course, it wasn't. While it's easy to blast those fooled by this trailer today, you have to remember that this type of misleading pre-release material wasn't as popular then as it is now. Also, Call of Duty 2 came out at the beginning of a new console generation, when gamers quite rightly weren't certain of the capabilities of the new technology. Activision exploited audiences' naïveté and sold Call of Duty 2 as a title that would achieve heights that were simply not possible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNz_CrXC6eY
