15 Misleading Video Game Trailers That Totally Lied To You
13. Gears Of War
Since its first reveal in 2006, Gears of War's moody 'Mad World' trailer has become an iconic part of the Xbox 360's history. The trailer teased a title that would be steeped in atmosphere, focusing on a lone survivor battling against insurmountable odds in a ravished dystopian future (so basically it sounded like every other game released in the past 10 years). But Gears of War, with all its bone-headed machismo, was never one for poignancy or emotion. While the trailer indeed set-up the main character and the world around him, players hoping for an engaging story with survival-horror sensibilities had their cries drowned out by the game's immediate chainsaw-duelling anarchy. The tone of this trailer was as far and away from the actual tone of the Gears of War series as you could get. Hell, the promo even gives the impression that you'll be going this game alone, yet in reality you rarely ever have less than one other burly dude getting in the way of your crouch-sprint at any given time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8
