15 Most Badass Monologues In Video Game History

12. "The Past Is A Gaping Hole..." (Max Payne 2)

Picking out the most badass monologue from a game series defined by them was a challenge, and in the end it came down to choosing between the intros to the first and second outings for Max Payne. In the end, the opening monologue to Max Payne 2 gets it because it feels like the point where developers Remedy really hit their scriptwriting peak.

The first game was just finding its feet, the third collapsed in on itself as Max slipped into being a grumpy old uncle figure, but the second struck the sweet note - rich in hard-boiled metaphors and brooding noir dialogue that would make Raymond Chandler proud. While the intro captures that brooding script perfectly, the entire game would be worth playing just for its awesome dialogue - which adeptly ranges from classic noir to comically self-referential.
