15 Most Badass Monologues In Video Game History

13. "War Has Changed" (Metal Gear Solid IV)

Forget Fallout's motto of "War never changes" (great though it may be). That assumes a historical timeline completely divergent from the world we're living in today, whereas Snake's moribund, raspy intro to Guns of the Patriots - which says the exact opposite - feels way more pertinent.

With its dystopian, conspiracy-theorist vision of a future where war has become regimented, systematised, micro-managed right down to the nano level (nano-managed?), it's a Kojima-esque Metal Gear Solid speech through and through, but still feels grounded and not entirely unthinkable. More importantly in the context of the game, it motivates you, as Snake, to throw a spanner in the works of the status quo and give it some hell.
