15 Most Disappointing Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
4. Assassin's Creed Unity
The annual release cycle of Assassin's Creed has caused problems for Ubisoft before; Assassin's Creed III launched with a number of technical hitches which very nearly ruined the experience for fans. The warning signs have been there for a while yet Ubisoft plowed ahead anyway. So, the issues which fans found in 2014's Unity were perhaps inevitable - that didn't stop them being immensely disappointing though. Frame-rate drops were frequent, players could fall through the floor at a moment's notice and character's faces could infamously disappear, revealing a horrifying mess of floating eyeballs and lips. Even aside from the technical issues, Unity feels like a step backwards. Black Flag - released the year before - sparked the series back into life with a number of exciting changes and imaginative design choices; Unity was a return to the somewhat tedious Assassin's Creed formula. The stealth mechanics were still poor, combat is still overly repetitive and the story was also held under scrutiny from fans. When it worked, Unity still provided some classic Assassin's Creed gameplay; the main problem lies in it's unwillingness to innovate or take drastic, adventurous steps. It's something Ubisoft desperately needs to look at going forward.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
