15 Most Disappointing Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
5. Final Fantasy XIV (The Original Release)
Recent Final Fantasy titles may have divided opinion (XIII being an obvious example) but none had received universal hatred until the first release of Final Fantasy XIV. Aside from being an MMO (XI drew questionable glances from fans for the same reason), it was considered one of the worst games ever made. Essentially, many of the complaints about the game focused on how rushed it felt. The game was regarded as unfinished on launch with an awful interface, unaided by numerous bugs and glitches. Various other aspects of the game were criticised too, mostly described as broken or pointless - not a great look. In fact, bizarrely, the game actually punished players who played for extended periods of time, with the Fatigue System. After a certain playing time, players began to receive less and less skill and experience points, punishing those putting time into the game - if that doesn't show how off-track Square Enix were with this release, nothing will. Inevitably, Square hauled the entire game offline and set about fixing it. Eventually, a year after closing the original game, Square launched the reworked game to a much better reception. Still, the fact that they couldn't get it right the first time was still massively disappointing for fans.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
