15 Most Hilariously Written Video Games Of All Time

1. Portal 2

Choice Quote: "Are you alive? That's important; should have asked that first. I'm - do you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to work on the assumption that you're still alive, and I'm just going to wait for you up ahead. I'll wait - I'll wait one hour. Then I'll come back, and, assuming I can locate your dead body, I'll bury you. All right? Brilliant! Go, team! See you in an hour! Hopefully! If you're not - dead." - Wheatley shouting down a hole in the ground following the player's falling through. If you ever need one title to show off the power of a comedic performance in-game, you need only look to the Portal series, but in particular Stephen Merchant's voicing of Wheatley in the second game. Portal isn't a game that relies on cutscenes to tell a story, instead having the vast majority of the action take place as your mute protagonist Chell explores the environment around her. The environment in question in both games is a testing lab owned by Aperture Science, a group who take delight in seeing just how capable humans are at using their patented portal gun to traverse through different 'testing chambers'. Back to Wheatley though, as Merchant brings his A-game to the series, voicing a small circular robot who's bolted to the ceiling yet monitors and guides your actions throughout the game. Fairly unknown to American audiences, Merchant is co-creator of The Office along with Ricky Gervais, and although his brand off socially-awkward comedy would lead to penning his own show Hello Ladies on HBO, it was his performance throughout Portal 2 that put him on the map in a big way.
