15 Most Infuriating Video Game Boss Battles Of The 2000s
10. Flamelurker - Demon's Souls
The 'Souls series hit the mainstream right near the tail-end of 2013 as that year's releases dried up and we all looked to our respective "I'll get round to it" piles for some inspiration. However, whilst Dark Souls is imminently more playable and polished than this first instalment, Demon's Souls has some of the finest/most annoying battles in anything creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has ever put together. Enter the Flamelurker, a truly devilish beast seemingly placed to remind any progression-making quester that "Hey, this is Demon's Souls. Time to die". His hulking stature and force of movement demolishes your defences almost immediately, the flame attacks do lasting damage regardless of any animation, standing too close to him will get you torched to cinders sometimes without you noticing - oh, and he has a leap attack that can hit you almost-instantly, so don't ever stop holding up your shield. Many fans still call this guy the most unfair of all Miyazaki's creations, and for damn good reason.
