The original Portal was the biggest, best video game surprise this side of the millennium, with an outstanding comedic script packed with memorable moments and endlessly witty dialogue. The above quote refers to the villainous GLaDOS' constant encouragement for the player to keep being a guinea pig in lab experiments by promising a nice big cake at the end of them. Yet as you progress through the game you stumble upon scrawlings denouncing the promised cake as a lie - which does indeed prove to be the case. Since that time, the quote has become a popular meme, and is quite possibly the closest a video game quote has come to be accepted as a mainstream saying - denoting that the promised reward is a fabrication existing only to manipulate the one who's been promised it.
