The first 3D game in the Metal Gear Solid series made a ton of advancements for video game storytelling, not least in making each time you died sound like a really big deal. Whenever Snake bit the dust, you weren't just greeted by a 'Game Over', but by random members of your support crew - including in particular, the chainsaw-voiced Colonel Campbell - screaming in anguish for Snake to get up. Your death may be expendable to you, but in that particular game-reality, you're leaving behind an agitated old man screaming desperately for you to wake up. It was traumatic. It's arguably the most memorable video game death quote of all time, and you desperately want to avoid dying just so you don't have to hear it. See if you can handle all of Campbell's different freak-outs over Snake's death below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6QWC5ZIPuI
