Onto a far more self-aware video game that doubles as a Twin Peaks tribute and then as its own beast entirely. Deadly Premonition is the sort of characterful, Japanese humour-infused delight you need to check out if Metal Gear Solid's more off-kilter moments ever did anything for you.

Playing as one 'Agent Francis York Morgan' (please just call him York), you unravel this truly bizarre murder mystery plot filled with more memorable individuals than a Pixar marathon. Morgan himself is a walking smorgasbord of western influence, part X-Files detectives, part Twin Peaks' Dale Cooper, part Hollywood film critic and all-parts memorable. Even the way he flicks his lighter open to randomly smoke during conversations is brilliant, and that's before I've mentioned how he thinks the way his coffee 'moves' in the morning can predict the future.

Developer SWERY (as he likes to be known) is as batsh*t-passionate about video games as they come, and Agent Francis York Morgan is like a tiny window in his completely loveable soul.
