4. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP)
Hideo Kojima recently said
MGS V: The Phantom Pain will be his final Metal Gear, and although he's said those exact words following every single sequel since the first 3D one, it's worth noting that when you look at just how much content he's put into more recent instalments - it might just be time to move on. Being PSP-exclusive, Peace Walker is one of the most celebrated titles in the canon only fans sought out back in 2013, but it actually forms the biggest relation to Phantom Pain in terms of soldier-capturing base-building mechanics. The story here too is completely loveable madness, opening with MGS 3's Boss character appearing to be on a piece of recording equipment despite her demise at the close of Snake Eater. Things only get crazier from there on in, but it's the Pokémon-style 'catch 'em all' nature of soldier acquisition that'll see you attaching balloons to anyone you come across, just to bolster your army back at home base. In short, Peace Walker has become one of 'those games' every fan of MGS should play, and if you've no access to a PSP, the remastered MGS HD collection will serve you even better.
