16 Best Video Game Moments This Generation (So Far)

11. The King Dice Fight - Cuphead

SILENT HILLS pt
Studio MDHR

It goes without saying that Cuphead has some of the best boss battles in any game from the last decade.

Whether the climactic showdown with the Devil, the flight-based shootout with the crafty Mr. Kahl's giant robot or that utterly infuriating face-off with Grim Matchstick (I hate that dumb dragon), there are numerous spectacular battles that could easily take this spot.

However, it's King Dice that manages to trump the lot, his boss rush board game battle becoming both Cuphead's hardest and most satisfying challenge.

Going one on one with the dice-headed dealer requires you use every skill you've learnt so far, forcing you to deal with a random assortment of 9 other bosses before you finally get to the six-sided man himself.

It's a trial of endurance that combines all of Cuphead's best aspects to form a painfully high-stakes battle, forcing you to learn every boss and how to perfectly combat them so that you can advance to the next stage. Slip-up once and your seemingly perfect run could end in seconds, the gauntlet needing pinpoint accuracy if you want any chance at putting King Dice away for good.

It's the moment that Cuphead has been building towards all along, and once you defeat it, the feeling is oh so sweet...
