10. Leaving The Great Plateau - The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

SILENT HILLS pt
Nintendo

The first time you walk out into Breath Of The Wild's expansive open world is utterly astounding. Gone are the small hubs of most Zelda games, replaced by a spectacularly open and explorable map that is crammed with detail and interactable features. It's freedom like Nintendo has never implemented before and, combined with Link's new climbing and Sheikah slate abilities, you can go anywhere and do anything.

That's what you think anyway until the tutorial ends. Turns out, you can actually go further. Finally unlocking the paraglider and floating down from The Great Plateau, you realise this is merely a small section of the game's world, the sprawling map crammed with more things to do, amazing biomes to explore and quests to undertake.

After a few years of hit or miss releases, soaring down into the wider world of Breath Of The Wild was a moment that truly cemented the company as being back on top, their willingness to push the boundaries of the typical Legend Of Zelda experience showing that they're far from irrelevant just yet.

While finally getting to face Ganon, pulling the Master Sword from the stone and navigating the Divine Beasts are all worthwhile highlights in their own right, nothing quite matches the freedom of first descending into this seemingly limitless open-world.
