9. Uncovering The Mystery - P.T / Silent Hills
Although it was just a demo, P.T is arguably one of the best horror experiences to ever grace a console. Hideo Kojima did in under two hours what many developers can't do in ten, his surreal take on the world of Silent Hill remaining a chilling example of video game horror done immaculately.
In truth, P.T's entire runtime is a highlight, but nothing matches the sheer excitement of finally understanding the mystery behind this shifting corridor thriller. Uncovering a short promo for a brand new Silent Hill follow-up with Guillermo Del Toro and Kojima attached was an unreal hype moment, especially after having experienced one of the most expertly helmed video game horror sequences of the last two decades moments before.
It was also as much an amazing solo moment as it was a communal one, with reams of players coming together to discover the demo's true purpose. After mere hours of scouring every inch of P.T's creepy corridor, the PlayStation community managed to put all the pieces together and decipher P.T's cryptic riddle.
Although Kojima's falling out with Konami means it will never see the light of day, the esteemed game director showing first-hand his aptitude for the genre and then immediately promising a full game's worth of content mere moments after was one of this generation's most jaw-dropping moments.
