1. Joel's The Bad Guy (Or Is He?) - The Last Of Us
The whole 'hero becomes the villain' trope is something that's pretty hard to make believable at the best of times, let alone when you've been embodying a certain 'hero' for hours on end, only to be forced into reanalysing everything beforehand. Luckily TLoU's twist is one you partake in, under the guise of saving character Ellie that you (hopefully) built a strong connection with throughout the course of the game. The great thing is plenty of titles have asked you to save a character from impending doom, but when it happens in Naughty Dog's masterpiece you'll walk up to the 'hostage takers' (surgeons) in question, only for the prompt to violently slice one of their throats, leading to you playing out the final scene slightly unaware of what side of the moral coin you're on. The game flips to cutscene as Joel executes another wounded main character, only to then jump ahead an hour or so with the aftermath of the escape still up for debate. The biggest twist comes here and at the close of the game, as Joel neglects to tell the previously unconscious Ellie of her purpose being the potential saviour of humanity, instead letting his selfish need for companionship (if you view it that way) take precedence over her death. The fact the game just presents you with these actions - half-played and half-watched - is a stroke of genius, and the cut to black solidifies its impact as you're left watching the credits forever wondering what side you're on in Joel and Ellie's context, and what you would've done given the same situation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TwdUn8WqOk Are there any other huge plot twists that blew your mind since 2010?
