16 Crucial Questions For 2016's Most Anticipated Video Games

12. Will Open-World Zelda Work?

Release Date: TBA 2016 The Wii U's new Zelda game was first shown off at E3 2014, emphasising the gorgeous cel-shaded visuals, while it was also confirmed that the game would unfold across a huge open-world, giving players multiple routes and approaches to quests and enemies. This isn't the first open-world Zelda game, but it's the first to tackle the mechanics in such a comprehensive way, and should theoretically result in the most freedom of any entry into the franchise to date. The question remains, though, will transitioning the series so far in this direction (as so many game franchises have these days) actually pay off, or have fans wishing for the more linear focus of prior titles? Prediction: Changing up the formula is always a risky prospect, but Nintendo have already done this multiple times with the franchise to enormous success, so there's not much reason to believe that they'll screw this up. Plus, given how long the game has been in development, it clearly won't be with us until it's been honed to perfection.
