16 Hardest Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)

12. Dark Souls II

Not only did FromSoftware's Demon's and Dark Souls games usher in a new way of experiencing worlds through third-person; they damn-near reinvented the very notion of what death could mean in a game. No more was a game over screen a cause for time wasted and a quick trip to the last checkpoint with all being lost - now you were gambling with your life to recover those spoils from the battlefield without getting skewered on the way back, learning the layout of the world and enemies through trial and error, and more importantly building up any number of personal vendettas against those that brought you down. DS 2 had some very lofty expectations because of the first game's many accolades, and although it didn't hit the mark overall, it's still extremely unforgiving in its presentation of the world with a difficulty curve that'll slice you in two if you're not careful.
