16 Horror Video Games You Must Play Before Halloween

5. Fatal Frame

Sometimes revealing the creature that stalks you in the night can bring the entire house of cards crashing down, but with Fatal Frame they had so much confidence that you'd never become too accustomed to their horrifying spectres, that it became a signature gameplay mechanic. Brandishing a camera and finding out the only way to fell your enemies is to lock them into your sights and take pictures at increasingly short distances is a masterstroke, and one we're surprised hasn't been replicated elsewhere. Having to stand firm and face the demons you'd otherwise be sprinting away from or loading your gun to take down and simply waiting it out until you can deal some damage is one of the most uneasy feelings you'll ever have.
