16 Horror Video Games You Must Play Before Halloween
6. Alien: Isolation
Dead Space would be nothing without the Alien franchise, and although it's taken since the dawn of video games to finally do the iconic Xenomorph justice, Isolation's development team (The Creative Assembly) finally rose from the ashes of Gearbox's Colonial Marines to deliver a first-person action-horror where the alien in question is completely unstoppable and damn-near omnipresent. Taking multiple pages out of the original Alien flick's book (before all the gung-ho machismo and head-splats pretty much ruined the creature's effectiveness in every sequel) you play as Ripley's daughter, investigating just where her mother got to. That whilst crawling through air-ducts, running for your life between airlocks and generally stealth'ing your way around is the order of the day, which makes for perfect nail-gnashing moments of tension when you scarper into a nearby locker just hoping that the alien won't sniff you out. It will though, multiple times, and you'll have to regain your composure every time.
