13. Donkey Kong Started Out As A Popeye Game
Unknown to many, Popeye's rights actually belonged to Nintendo for many years, whereby he'd appear on some of their trademark playing cards. The next logical step was to have him front a digital product, but even after designing a game where you'd play as Popeye and attempt to rescue Olive Oyl from Bluto, the company lost the franchise rights. Rather than admit defeat, Nintendo replaced the characters with their own, spawning Donkey Kong in place of Bluto, Princess Toadstool (Peach) for Oyl and Jumpman (Mario) for Popeye.
