16 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2017

3. Destiny 2

Destiny 2 Crucible
Bungie

If Bungie would only put the time into building a decent story or progression that wasn't dependent on re-running the same levels over and over, Destiny would be the best FPS on the planet. So exquisite is its feel of FPS, its locomotion and general presentation, millions have become completely enamoured with just the mere firing of a gun, or the shotgun-kick of a melee strike.

It provides the perfect illusion for a game that - again, once you start scratching away at the surface - is thick as an ocean and as deep as a puddle. Destiny 2's campaign literally boils down to "Here's a big evil alien, go kill him", with a short length and lack of gameplay variety compounding just how much this "sequel" is once again, more of the same.

Bungie were quick to advertise season passes and additional DLC, with the game's endgame Raids and Nightfall Strikes being frustrating protracted messes, only actually worth playing if you'd played other missions enough to grind up the appropriate levels.

For as much as Bungie touted this as being something of a course-correct, Destiny 2's menus, guns, feel and progression is beat for beat the exact same as 2014.
