What It's About: From the mind of Grim Fandango's Tim Schafer comes another point-and-click adventure game, set in two distinct worlds as the player can switch between characters (one of whom is voiced by Elijah Wood) at any time. Broken Age is episodic in nature, and to date, Act 2 is still awaiting release. Why You Need To Play It: The first half of Schafer's latest game is a joyous adventure yarn, beautifully constructed with a distinctive visual palette ranging from elaborate sci-fi locales to more down-to-Earth countryside vistas, depending on which character you're playing as. It's not particularly long or challenging (a play-through should take you about 3 or 4 hours), but it's gently immersive all on its own, re-affirming Schafer's penchant for absorbing storytelling and memorable characters. Its success has also been a testament to the potential of crowd-funded games, which in a market where AAA publishers seem increasingly out of touch, is certainly no bad thing.
