18 Best Moments From The Batman: Arkham Video Games
7. Batman Vs. Bane
For all the good that Rocksteady's done in terms of portrayals, the one area where they've consistently dropped the ball was in regard to Bane's characterisation - this is a man who was forged in the deepest pit of the deadliest prison in Santa Prisca, a man who fought tooth and nail to escape it's walls, and the first man to break the Bat.
Bane is Batman's opposite, a man who shares the Dark Knight's intellectual and physical prowess, but none of his moral restrictions (not all of them, at least) - none of this was reflected in the first two Arkham games, which reduced Bane to a drooling imbecile of a man with the gait of a gorilla and a quarter of the brains. Thankfully, WB Montreal came along and delivered the best take on the character in years, firmly repositioning Bane as Batman's equal.
The Dark Knight's initial encounter with Bane leaves him shaken, and things take a turn for the worse when he stumbles upon Bane's base of operations where he discovers that Bane's known about his secret identity for quite some time. Before long, Wayne Manor's in tatters and Alfred's left for dead. Batman's taken more beatings than he can count - he's been shot at, knocked around and nearly blown up, but this goes beyond mere bruises.
By attacking Bruce's home, Bane's tearing down the symbol and gunning for the man behind the mask - reminding us that as long as Batman has allies, he has weaknesses.
