18 Best Video Game Levels Of The Decade (So Far)

Will Rockstar ever top that trip into Mexico?

Remember when a game's level was easily defined? These days with access to entire worlds to bomb around in, casts of characters to hang out with and few million side-objectives to get through, a 'level' can be anything from an old-school platforming jump-a-thon, to a particularly memorable mission in something like GTA V or The Witcher 3. From little-known indie gems to bank-breaking blockbuster explosion-fests, there's just nothing quite like gaming - that indescribable feeling of 'flow' you get when the act of controlling something fades away, your brain synapses sync up with the action on-screen and you're just there, living out any number of incredible fantasies that are the best the medium has to offer. Even though the current generation has been a bit of a bumpy ride, the decade itself has seen a huge number of worthwhile experiences - all of which backed by developers getting more and more acquainted with the hardware itself. Gaming in 2015 looks better than ever, and regardless of whether the budget is hanging on a shoestring or reaching up into the millions - these are the levels we'll be fondly remembering come the close of the decade.
