3. Investigating The Conspiracy - Firewatch

Firewatch is 'one of those games' that thousands of people despise - which is totally cool. Again, like The Witness, it isn't for everyone, but if you've a penchant for short, tightly-written think pieces that'll stay with you long after the credits, Firewatch is worth your time.

Part and parcel of that is precisely how effectively it plays with your expectations and assumptions of the surrounding world - rather like Gone Home did back in 2013. You'll arrive at a point in the story where it very much feels like someone is watching you - and come the moment you manage to break into a mysterious facility and find folders detailing your own communications and personal attributes, things.get.WEIRD.

I'm not going to spoil more than that, but sufficed to say at this stage the game knows it has you in the palm of its hand, leading to the perfect mix of a terrifying backing score, and a "What the f**k?!" reaction from player-character Henry.

What the f**k indeed.
