7. Taming, Riding & Hunting With A Sabretooth Tiger - Far Cry Primal

You'd be forgiven for forgetting there was even a Far Cry game this year at all, let alone one that specialises in transporting you back to the Stone Age.

Still, whilst Primal was very much more of the same, it did have one ultra-cool string to its crafted bow: rideable sabertooth tigers.

You'd actually get access to a number of beasts ranging from bears to wolves, but coming a good few hours into the game - after you'd been ravaged by a handful yourself - but getting sabertooth tigers onside felt incredible.

Suddenly you were free to sic them on your enemies, go hunting together, see them make the save if any other animals attempted to hurt you - and ride courageously into battle whenever you liked.

Far Cry Primal may have missed the mark when it came to GOTY considerations, but it still had some of the finest moments in the year.
