18 Greatest Last Levels In Gaming History
16. Cradle - Goldeneye 007
Just like its movie namesake, the finale of Goldeneye takes place atop of a radio antenna. However, what could have been a waking nightmare for any vertigo suffer is turned into the setting for one of the most memorable first person shooter levels ever.
In an intense climax, you're tasked with chasing Sean Bean's Trevelyan across the skyline (well, it's supposed to be Sean Bean, but with N64 graphics you could say that the character model was supposed to be Shania Twain and everyone would believe you) in order to stop him from arming the Goldeneye satellite's firing mechanism. To increase the pressure even more, the mission taunts you with the need to keep a sure footing while also being on an time limit to stop the super-villain from executing his evil schemes.
However, this insanely fun level would be nothing if it wasn't for a perfect closing line; in classic Bond fashion, once you've finally corned Trevelyan he cranks up his clichéd movie villain mugging to stratospheric levels, mocking you with a smug "For England, James?" just before you put enough bullets in him to send him flying off the tower. But not before delivering a cool "No, for me", of course.
Revenge has never felt so sweet.
