18 Greatest Video Games Of The PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 Generation

6. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Have you ever come across a particular stunning vista in a game and let out an audible gasp? Skyrim is full of these moments and it's unlike anything else as a result. The world of Skyrim is huge but amazingly, it never feels empty. It's a place that is full of life; full of things to see and do. It's a world that inspires adventure and exploration; you'll want to discover everything is has to offer, from the bleak northern snow plains to the dense forestry of the southern areas. Gameplay-wise, it isn't a world away from Oblivion but it adds enough to keep fans of the series engaged. The ability to duel-wield magic and weapons makes for a greater variety of offensive tools and removing the character class system prevents the player from being forced down a particular path. The melee combat is a little robotic at times but the multitude of attacks and abilities at your disposal prevents it from ever being repetitive. Like most Bethesda games, it's entirely optional to progress through the storyline, and that's something to be celebrated - instead there's so much to do within Skyrim that giving the player control over where they go and what they do is actually beneficial. All of this makes Skyrim a truly special game; it's the sort of thing that pulls you in for hours at a time.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
