Pac-Man has been around since 1980, making him one of the oldest characters in video game history. Due to the simplistic gaming hardware on offer at the time of his creation, the yellow sphere that loves munching pellets was given an equally basic sound effect.

If you’ve never played Pac-Man before, which is perfectly possible if you’re under 30 and not into retro gaming, you might wonder what in the world you’ve just listened to. Don’t listen to it for one hour like the video wants you to. It’s not worth it!

Thankfully that repetitive “Wakka Wakka” sound is sent to the back of your mind when you’re actually playing the game. You get so caught up tracking down all the pills and avoiding the ghosts that your brain starts to operate on a different level.
