18 Reasons 2018's Biggest Video Games Might Suck

13. The Script Is Embarrassingly Tone-Deaf - Detroit: Become Human

Detroit Become Human
Quantic Dream

Why It Might Suck: Like all of Quantic Dream and David Cage's games, the only real reason to be worried about Detroit: Become Human is Cage's script.

Every single one of his prior "interactive dramas" have been beautiful to behold yet ultimately fallen apart due to Tommy Wiseau-caliber writing in the final stretch, so why expect anything different here?

Considering that Cage's new game is clearly an allegory for race relations in America, it's hard to imagine him delivering a nuanced exploration of the subject rather than a clumsy, heavy-handed, even tone-deaf social commentary that's more embarrassing and laughable than thoughtful.

Why It Might Not: Artists can improve themselves over time, of course, and Cage may be no exception.

Either Cage may have found a way to cleverly allegorise concerns about contemporary America, or perhaps that element of the game is much more subdued than the premise and title seem to suggest so far.
