16. Binary Domain

Designer of the phenomenal Yakuza series, Toshihiro Nagoshi birthed this second title chock-full of memorable characters and badass-dialogue. Domain takes place in a world where something of a singularity has occurred between human and machine, resulting in the creation of Hollow Children; robots that can pass for humans. The genius twist here though, is that some robots are unaware of their origin, and with the game opening up showing a would-be human ripping off their own face to reveal the circuitry underneath, it creates a fascinating backdrop for whats to come. To delve into the story outside of saying the characters and plot revelations are overblown in the best way possible, would be to spoil the fun. If youve had the pleasure of playing any of the Yakuza games, or appreciate when sci-fi has every possible permutation thought-out a la Mass Effect, Binary Domain is right up your alley. With controls that mimic the Gears of War template, theyre serviceable enough to let you focus on the character interaction (put upon you by a myriad of choices in-game, as well as optional voice support to let you talk directly to your squad), bringing together one of the most unique shooters on consoles.
