20 Announced Video Games That Are NEVER Coming Out

The episodic visual novel game series tells a heartfelt but action-packed story of heroes fighting to prevent a fourth world war. It was meant to serve as a follow-up to Higurashi When They Cry and Umineko When They Cry. Developed by 07 Expansion, with character designs handled by Ryukishi07, the game was set to be released in four episodes.

Phase 1 of the series was released in 2019, but Phase 2 hit a roadblock when its initially planned mid-2020 release was pushed back to later in the year. In a rather cruel twist, real world crises not unlike those the game showcases, then put a halt on progress. The COVID19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill and Ryukishi07 deemed the game's themes far too close to the unfolding real-world tragedy for it to be released in that period.

Following that it was the Russian invasion of Ukraine, again owing to eerie similarities with the game's storyline, that led to a further delay. While it is most certainly commendable of everyone involved to prioritize a moral responsibility to respect the sufferings of others over commercial goals, it does mean the fate of the game is currently up in the air.
