20 Announced Video Games You Won't Play For YEARS
9. Mass Effect 5
You can't really blame Mass Effect fans for being twitchy and impatient at this point - the sci-fi series' last game, Mass Effect: Andromeda, came out almost a decade ago in 2017, and its disappointing commercial performance caused EA to put the franchise on hold.
Thankfully it was resurrected in 2020, when BioWare announced that Mass Effect 5 was in early development, with a teaser trailer implying that the game will be a sequel to the original trilogy.
Though we've had a few enticing updates since, such as key developers of the original trilogy being hired to work on the new game, considering we've now more than five years removed from the announcement, we've not really heard all that much.
As of last year BioWare confirmed that Mass Effect 5 was still in the pre-production phase, with some analysts pointing to a 2028 or 2029 release, though given that BioWare is still hiring key team members, even that timeline sounds pretty optimistic.
And so, would it shock anyone if we didn't have Mass Effect 5 in our hands until 2030, a full decade after it was announced?
