One of the big surprises of last December's Game Awards was the reveal of an entirely new Star Wars game - Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.

Clearly mounted as something of a spiritual successor to the beloved Knights of the Old Republic RPGs, this new game will be developed by Arcanaut Studios and most crucially helmed by Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect director Casey Hudson.

The cinematic reveal trailer certainly looked gorgeous, though the lack of featured gameplay naturally led many to assume it won't be releasing for a good few years yet.

Literally the day after the reveal, Bloomberg's intrepid reporter Jason Schreier claimed that, due to Arcanaut only being founded in 2025, an "optimistic guess" was that the game would release in 2030, and could even end up a PlayStation 7 title.

This picked up enough traction online that Hudson himself replied, affirming that Fate of the Old Republic would release before 2030.

Considering that Lucasfilm Games said that it was in "early development," though, it seems unlikely to release before 2029 - and a 2030 drop is entirely believable.
