20 Announced Video Games You Won't Play For YEARS
14. Beyond Good & Evil 2
As won't be a surprise to anyone, we're almost certainly still a long, long way off from playing Beyond Good and Evil 2.
The long-gestating action-adventure sequel was first announced by Ubisoft in 2008 (!), and though word went silent swiftly thereafter, it was re-announced as a more ambitious AAA open world project at E3 2017.
Despite an attention-grabbing re-reveal, the years that followed were suspiciously quiet, all while the production faced unfortunate hurdles such as the 2020 departure of director Michel Ancel amid allegations of a toxic workplace culture, and the sudden death of his successor Emile Morel in 2023.
In 2022 Beyond Good and Evil 2 surpassed Duke Nukem Forever for the longest development period of any AAA game in history, prompting many to dub it vaporware with little prospect of actually coming out.
But Ubisoft does periodically comment on the game's development, assuring fans that it is indeed still in the works, affirming in January 2026 that it remains a priority for them.
It'd be shocking if Beyond Good and Evil 2 came out before the 20th anniversary of its original reveal in 2028, and 2029 or 2030 wouldn't be surprising in the slightest.
