20 Awful Characters In Amazing Games
8. Delphine (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)
Delphine really should, even could, have been fantastic in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As the Dragonborn, you get the chance to meet a member of a secretive order (The Blades) designed specifically to help and protect you. What could be wrong with that? Well, she doesn't quite live up to those expectations, in a way that doesn't feel intentional.
From the beginning of your partnership with Delphine, it's like she has no idea what her own position or philosophy is. You and her should be a team, but she treats the player like an underling, constantly berating you and sending you on dangerous missions. That's even though her order supposedly wants to protect the Dragonborn. She's incredibly controlling, in a way that undermines the game's freedom.
It would be easy to overlook this kind of behaviour if she proved herself to be a dependable, confident leader. The problem is that she's wrong about everything, as her paranoia is rampant and she seems to have no critical thinking skills.
Plus, she wants you to kill Paarthurnax. Come on.
