9. Kai Leng (Mass Effect 3)
It is genuinely challenging, nigh-on impossible, to find a gaming franchise with a better track record for character quality than the Mass Effect series. This epic space opera nails it every time, with compelling stories and charming personalities galore. However, one character sticks out like a sore thumb - Kai Leng.
As The Illusive Man's most dangerous assassin, you'd expect Kai Leng to be an undeniably terrifying antagonist. The reality is far different, as this character feels massively out of place thanks to his over-design. His ridiculous suit (with built-in coat tails for some reason) looks totally impractical and somehow makes the idea of a space ninja boring.
On top of this, he's only ever presented as a minion, working for Cerberus at the behest of The Illusive Man and never sharing what drives him. He always gloats, despite his position as nothing but a better villain's prop, and yet he always whines too. It's not a healthy combination.
Now, yes, Mass Effect 3 is hardly the strongest game of the bunch, but it still has so many things to offer - Kai Leng isn't one of them.
