6. Fallout 3
The first time you see the sun it blinds your eyes for a moment. Youve grown up in a vault unnatural light is all youve been used to. You begin to focus and suddenly you see the destruction around you. From that moment the Capital Wasteland is yours to explore. Washington DC in the 23rd century is not a safe place to be. A visit to the inner city will include a tour of the ghoul-infested metro system and a tourist trip to Capitol Hill will involve a battle with super mutants. Head to the north home of the hilarious Republic of Dave and you may encounter a deathclaw or two almost certain annihilation to a lower level character. You can choose a number of traits for your character, start any mission you want to, explore any number of blown-up buildings or find any of the numerous collectibles. There is plenty to do and you can build your character however you want to. Its gaming freedom at its best. Where Skyrim has beautiful valleys and ancient ruins, Fallout 3 has Megaton a city centered on an undetonated nuke and a hole where the White House used to be. Atomic annihilation has taken its toll on DC so dont expect this to be a friendly visit to the US capital. Fallout has everything you could want from a RPG. A decent story, a huge land filled with locations to explore, danger around every corner and more missions than you can shake a mole rat-repellent stick at. Its a game you can utterly immerse yourself in.
