19. New Super Mario Bros. U
The New Super Mario Bros. series is all about one of the best video game franchises in the world earning the right to rest on its laurels a bit. When you make the first three Super Mario Bros. games, Super Mario World, Mario 64, and Mario Sunshine back to back from one another, you get to take it easy, it's as simple as that.
New Super Mario Bros. U is the final game in this mini franchise, and as such, it's probably the best of the bunch in terms of gameplay. As we said, the game design is a bit basic compared to more mainstream Mario games, but those basic designs are so solidly built that it hardly matters.
But of course what puts it so near the bottom is, ironically, the series' biggest selling point: the co-op. Simply put the game is meant to be played cooperatively, but the levels are still built for one player. as such when you have the full four players, it won't take long before you're all actively trying to kill each other.
