Much like Bioware were considered the best at making action-adventure role-playing games, Blizzard Entertainment were considered the best at making real-time strategy games. That have a number of classic titles under their belt, but Starcraft remains one of their fans favourites

The first Starcraft launched way back in 1998 and was considered the benchmark for real-time strategy games of its time. It quickly garnered a mass following and a sequel was eagerly anticipated, however fans would have to wait until 2010 before they could finally get their hands on it.

Starcraft 2 was set fours years after the events of the first game and revolves around the games three main species of the Terrans, Zerg and Protoss. Although the game was criticised for excluding features from the original game, it was praised for its story, new features and engaging gameplay.

The game became so popular that professional teams from around the world would participate in competitive matches. It’s games like Starcraft that are widely considered the reason for why esports came to be and was able to grow across the world.

To this day, Starcraft 2 remains one of the most popular real-time strategy games of all time.
