It is a well proven fact that horror and science-fiction go together really well. And when it comes to gaming, there are not many greater examples of this than in Dead Space.

Originally intended to be System Shock 3, lead producers Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey decided to make something entirely new after they were inspired by Resident Evil 4. High levels of gore, violence and dismemberment were all listed as the main themes of the games development, and were the main way to defeat the various Necromorph creature you would encounter.

As you wonder the corridors of the eerily quiet USG Ishimura, you must hold your nerve against the swarms of Necromorphs you will face as you help Isaac Clarke through various hazards and solve multiple puzzles in order to find his beloved Nicole and escape the ship alive.

The game was received overwhelming positive critical acclaim as has been cited as one of the best sci-fi survival horror games of all time. The game also won awards for its incredible soundtrack and audio design.

The game did well enough to merit two sequels, but it is the original game that fans of this series love the most.
