Dante is easily one of gaming’s all-time coolest characters and one of the things keeping Capcom afloat. What he lacks in emotional depth, he more than makes up for with his style and catchphrases.
One of the things that makes Dante so interesting is the fact that he’s so on the nose and focused on being cool and stylish. Dante's penchant for being a cool character is so rarely seen in gaming that he really is in a league of his own.
That may make it seem like Dante is more style than substance, but that’s not inherently a bad thing, as it's actually what makes him stand out from other generic gaming characters.
Devil May Cry's position as one of the best of a dying genre also makes Dante much more beloved, because people legitimately miss him and his games.
