If there was one showstopper from Nintendo's E3 Direct, it was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The franchise's Switch debut is attempting to please anybody who's even had a passing interest in the fighting series, not only by supporting both joy-cons and Gamecube controllers, attempting to retain the pace Melee is loved for, but also by including every character to ever appear in a Smash Bros. game.

Its "Ultimate" moniker isn't undeserved, and it's clear that Nintendo are hoping to create the definite Smash Bros. experience with the latest release. What's more is that they seem to be nailing it. Not only is the combat blistering and roster ridiculous - with fan-favourites like Metroid's Ridley making an appearance for the very first time - but the game itself looks stunning, making the most out of the Switch's power.

It's yet another reason for Nintendo fans to embrace their latest console, and with a December 2018 release date being announced, it could end up being the best Switch game of the year.
