Although it was announced a couple E3s ago, fans have been kept in the dark as to how the development of the Resident Evil 2 remake has been progressing. Fortunately, Sony revealed the first look at the game, courtesy of an excellent trailer which initially looked like an entirely different project, establishing the remake's new look, new perspective, and even a release date.

Unlike the remake of the original title in the franchise, RE2 is opting for a complete gameplay overhaul, abandoning the fixed camera angles and tank controls of the original release in favour of a Resi 4-style, over-the-shoulder perspective. While that might be a little disappointing for some purists, it makes sense considering this is a total remake and reimagining of the second title, built from the ground up rather than an easy re-skin of an old game.

In fact, while the trailer did show off locations and scenes from the source material in the gorgeous new engine, for the most part this could be viewed as the next main instalment in the survival-horror franchise.
