Following 2013's divisively received reboot of the series from Ninja Theory, Devil May Cry needed a bucket-sized shot of adrenaline to get back in the fold.

Thankfully, that came in the form of continuing where we left off in 2008, with Capcom using Resident Evil 2 Remake's "RE Engine" to make something that looks absolutely gorgeous from moment one.

Visuals extend to gameplay too, as clearly the devs were dying to get back to Dante's adventures, hands-down making him the most capable character in action game history. Newbie V controls in a way no other hero ever has, and Nero's rotating assortment of special moves keep things fresh in a neat, dynamic way.

Devil May Cry 5 is set up to be a powder keg explosion of fan service and appeal for a whole new generation of players. Capcom absolutely nailed that mission statement, and this sets a bar for controllable action in video games that will be VERY hard to beat.
