If the pacing and world design was tighter, Days Gone would've gone down in history as a prolific, pioneering attempt at "open-world horror".

Because when it works - when you're sneaking over a moonlit hilltop, stumbling upon a herd of hundreds of zombies moaning their way from place to place - it's a feeling of intensity like nothing else.

Main-man Deacon St. John gets upstaged by his own name when it comes to memorability, but as a zombie experience, Days Gone harnesses enough of that large-scale, isolating feel, to be wholly recommendable.
