20 Biggest Games Of 2014: What Do We Already Know?
15. Oddworld: New 'N' Tasty! (Spring)
Few so-called "HD remakes" actually deliver on their promise of delivering a genuine HD experience: most of them, even the best ones, merely upscale the textures and add in a widescreen ratio, when what's really needed is to re-build the game from the ground up. However, developers Just Add Water are doing just that for New 'N' Tasty, a fully-fledged HD version of the classic PS1 platformer Abe's Oddysee, which retains the original's 2.5D visual style, though is constructed with gorgeous, contemporary graphics. Needless to say, Abe has never looked better, and with a budget of $5 million, this is clearly not a game being done on the lazy or cheap. The developers have reported that the game needs to sell 250,000 copies for an Abe's Exoddus remake to follow, and 500,000 for a whole new Oddworld game. Given how this game was many people's first experience on the PlayStation (it was the main demo on one of the demo discs packaged with the console), hopefully nostalgia will win out despite a relatively pricey $30 price tag. Will It Deliver? From the few clips we've seen so far, this looks like everything the original game was but with vastly superior graphics. The price point is a bit steep, but this looks like it will shame the vast majority of HD makeovers.
