20 Biggest Video Game Bombs Of 2025
6. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2
Although Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is regarded as a cult classic in the RPG genre, its debut was chaotic to say the least. Coupled with a troubled development and technical issues at launch, the grisly bloodfest came out the same day as Half-Life 2, which hogged the spotlight. Despite the fact Bloodlines is viewed as a flawed masterpiece, these factors contributed to poor sales, which didn't even reach 80,000.
But decades later, the love for Vampire: The Masquerade hasn't subsided, which is why it was reassuring when a sequel was green-lit.
But like its predecessor, Bloodlines 2 had an apocalyptic development, involving rewrites, delays, and a complete change in studio. Though veterans wanted Bloodlines 2 to knock it out of the park, the final product was a mess, due to the rampant glitches, primitive RPG mechanics, and glacial pacing.
However, its critical reception was nowhere near as bad as its financial situation. Bloodlines 2's publisher, Paradox Interactive, announced a write‑down of $37 million in development costs, acknowledging the sales didn't come close to matching projections.
It was upsetting to see the first instalment bomb, but this one hurt even more.
